    I Just Realized Something...
Okay, for the record, I hate Twilight. Maybe it's because I don't think vampires should sparkle. Maybe it's because I had fads. Maybe it's because I have a kid sister IRL that has brought the over-saturation of the damn saga to my own family.

Anyways, I had a little revelation relating to the Twilight saga today. For those fortunate enough not to know, the Twilight series is basically about a love triangle between a teenage girl named Bella, a vampire named Edward, and a werewolf named Jacob. So, tomorrow at my local mall, a few actors from the Twilight movies are going to be signing autographs. When I left the mall at close, there were already about two or three dozen people in line, with lawnchairs and sleeping bags. A good number of these were young girls, maybe 16-18ish.

My first urge as I passed by this line was to inform all of these fanatics that they were just this side of insane, waiting overnight just to get a scribble on a piece of paper. Then I noticed a few of the shirts they were wearing. Two in particular really stuck out to me; 'You can have your vampire, I WANT THE WOLF' and 'I'll HOWL for Jacob'

I thought about those for a moment, and then it struck me. Massively popular movie, hooking young girls into fawning over a sexy werewolf...wanting to join his pack and be a werewolf with him...'Holy shit'. I thought. 'This movie is going to tug a lot of young, teenage girls towards furry.'

Seriously, think about it. One of the MAJOR starting points for the furry fandom was the were community. Now there's a very popular teen romance flick with a werewolf as one of the main characters. It's going to be like what Interview with the Vampire did for goths. So yeah, for all you straight furs complaining about there not being enough straight girls in the fandom...

Happy hunting, more are probably coming, and they'll be hot for wolves ;)

    Tournament Get!
So I played in my first-ever Warhammer 40k tournament yesterday. And wow, it was fun. I've been spending the last several months preping my army; Painting it, play-testing the list, tweaking things here and there, and I'm so glad the time I put in was worth it. My legs hurt like hell and I had virtually no voice to speak of by the end of the day, but it was worth it.

As for how I did, that wasn't bad either! I don't know my exact placing yet, but I came away with 2 wins, a loss and a draw, and I'm especially proud of the draw since it was against Imperial Guard! (Oh god, the pie plates!)

Anyways, there's my geekery quota for the day! Oh, and for those of you interested (And actually still reading :P), here's the list I ran. (It was an 1850 point tourney)

For the Win/For the Lose [Part 2]
    Now, For The Lose:

    WARNING! CANADIAN POLITICAL CONTENT!

So this morning, Michaëlle Jean gave our Prime Minister permission to 'prorogue' Parliament, instead of facing a non-confidence motion in the House of Commons on Monday. That is, she is letting Stephen Harper take his ball and bat and go home like a whiny little snot-nosed kid. Aside from the fact that this has now given the Conservatives six full weeks to launch a mass propaganda campaign, slamming and denouncing the opposition parties, it has also set a VERY dangerous precedent for ALL future governments.

What I mean is that now, because of Stephen Harper, any government that faces a non-confidence motion can simple walk over to Rideau Hall, knock on the door, and say 'The House of Commons is being mean!', and get the place locked out for six weeks. Harper has taken the FUNDAMENTAL idea of the House of Commons, that to govern, you need its support, torn it apart, eaten it, and then used it as a spitball to fire upon the 62% of Canadians that DID NOT EVEN VOTE FOR HIM.

What's worse, our government will now essentially cease to fuction for the next six weeks, in the midst of a continually worsening economy and global disintegration of credit. Our Parliment will not sit again until President-Elect Obama takes his seat in the Oval Office. Unlike our southern neighbours, however, nothing in terms of policy or budget can be accomplished until then.

I supported the idea of having a Coalition Government. While I do not like Dion, and am very much looking forward to his replacement, I am still of the STRONG opinion that our MP's need to start learning how to work together and compromise, to try and create policy and legislation that reflects the whole of the country, not just the West. And I'm saying that while living here in Alberta. While I'd prefer that a coalition was not reliant on Bloc support (A party I think shouldn't even exist), it is still more reflective of Canada than Harper's 'Rule like it's a Majority' policies.

So here we are. Thanks to Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, we are now staring the most divisive issue Canada has faced since the Conscription Crisis of WWI right in the face. I hope Harper's mother has the milk and cookies ready for when Stephen gets home with his bat.

For the Win/For the Lose [Part 1]
Okay, first off, let's do the For the Win:

    New MacBook Pro FTW.

Now that my classes are done, I've actually had a bit more time to putz around with the brand-new, souped-up MacBook Pro that arrived two weeks ago. By Putz, I mean install and play some of my favorite games, including Company of Heroes, Civ IV, Left 4 Dead, and Team Fortress 2.

Oh. My GAWD. This is my first DX10-enabled computer, and jeebus, the performance, especially in CoH, is INCREDIBLE compared to my old Jekyll and Hyde (Yes, I name my computer).

Oh, and in case you're thinking "A-Bwaaa? Games? Mac?", I use Boot Camp, letting me partition my drive and run Windows, play games, and all that fun stuff.

I think it's safe to say I won't get much studying for finals done XD

    New Computer Stats (15-inch MBP):
    OS:
'Romulus' = Mac Partition (Mac OS X Leopard 10.5)
'Remus' = Windows Partition (Vista Ultimate 64-bit)
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 @ 2.53 GHz

    Remember
Today is Remembrance Day. Today, 90 years ago, World War One ended. 90 years ago today marked the end of four long years of a war where the front barely moved 10 miles in either direction. They called it 'The War to End All Wars', 'The Great War'. But 21 years after those last shots had been fired, 21 years after the western world had believe that it had signed the last peace treaty it would ever have to sign, the Wehrmacht crossed its eastern border into Poland.

In World War One, it is estimated 8,500,000 soldiers lost their lives. Of those, Canada gave up about 55,000 of her sons for King and Country. Remember them.

In World War Two, almost 21,000,000 SOLDIERS were killed. That abhorrent loss of life is not even half of the total number killed because of the war. In that war, 37,000 Canadian soldiers gave their lives to drive back Hitler in Europe, and Imperial Japan in the Pacific. Remember them.

Since World War Two, Canadian men and women have fought for peace or freedom in Korea, Bosnia, Serbia, and other theatres I am likely forgetting. And even now, the Canadian Forces are working to give the Afgani people the freedom they have not had since the Cold War. Since 2002, Canada has lost almost 100 soldiers. Remember them.

Today is Remembrance Day. On the Eleventh Hour, of this Eleventh Day, of this Eleventh Month, I hope you took a minute, and Remembered. If you didn't, please, take it now, Lest We Forget.

    In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

    The Aristocrat

    71% Elegant, 59% Technological, 47% Historical, 36% Adventurous and 14% Playful!

You are the Aristocrat, the embodiment of steampunk elegance and poise. For you, dressing steampunk is first and foremost about simply looking good, with accessories and details to follow. However, this does not mean that you ignore the demands of creating a “steampunk look.” Your outfits weave together a balance between technology and style, and between period accuracy and beautiful anachronism. While your fashion inspiration may come from anywhere across the Victorian social spectrum, you always find a way to make your outfit beautiful. You will probably be found in the clothes of the steam age elite simply because of the greater elegance available to them. Chances are you dress this way because you like it, and you would still dress in this manner even if steampunk was not a popular interest.

    Re: Heath Ledger
    http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/22/heath.ledger.dead/index.html

Okay, yes this sucks, yes, Heath Ledger was a cool dude. Two things really piss me the fuck off over this though.

    1) Everyone's first question (Including mine, I'm guilty too) is 'Damn, did they finish Dark Knight?' Are we so selfish, greedy and bored that when someone that happens to be acting in a movie we want to see dies, our first thoughts are not to his family or friends, or even the dead man's soul, but instead to some piece of entertainment that we might not get to see because of the event?

    2) Heath Ledger is one of many, many 20-something year old men that died today. And not the only one to die under tragic circumstances. Look at Iraq. Look at Afghanistan. Look in Pakistan, Keyna, or fuck, even Vancouver, where a small gang war is ripping the 'bad part' of my hometown apart. But everyone is going to stop and shead tears and blubber over this one cute aussie because he was famous and in movies we liked. It's fuckin' sick. Where are the tears for those other that died today? Or will die tomorrow?

Anyways, hate me all you want for being cold, insensitive, or whatever the hell else. But I just that this as another reminder that life is fleeting. Cherish it. Cherish friends, cherish family. Cherish going to the movies. You can bet I will be when The Dark Knight comes out.

    Update on Life!
Well, hi there. In case you didn't see by now, I've been a bit....sloooooow in updating or trying to do anothe rof those video things. So sue me, I'm lazy. I think I do have most of the video bugs worked out.

Anywho, first off, big hugs to everyone that I didn't get to see at Anthrocon...which would be everyone, since I didn't go. Don't regret it though, I am about $1000 richer than I would have been had I gone. That, and I get to help Levi, Tabberpaw, Tamas and them move into their new place next week, so that should be loads of fun and then some.

Also, Stampede rocks. That would be the Calgary Stampede I'm talking about. They call it The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, and they do not fib. You know the county fair some of you may still be lucky enough to have? You know, th carnival games, spinny rides and food that'll make even my skinny butt gain a few pounds? Yeah, well take it, and multiply by a lot. Long story short, I got to win myself a cool Penguin plushie with a necktie, I won my gryphon a tiger, and I got to check out a CF-18 Hornet and Leopard C2 Main Battle Tank (The Canadian Forces were, as always, camping out at the end of the midway. Hooray for playing around with military hardware!)

As for other stuff, work is work, I await my letter from school (I'll be starting Education come September, yes I DO want to be a teacher) and otherwise putz. Oh, and here's a bit of a surprise, too:

Wow....It has been a very long time.
    Holy crap...

I just remembered I have this bloody thing. Well, there has been far too much that has happened in my life since June 24th, so I'll just summarize:

-Got to University, and did not do very well in my first semester of Engineering :P
-Had my first anniversiary with my loving, caring and sexy partner, Vox
-Met with several new friends, like Levithan and Kurt. They rock :)
    -Started fencing
-Watched in horror as the Consevative Party of Canada took power in Parliament, with the promise to revisit the gay marriage 'issue' Yeah. I'll be ranting more about that later.

I think those are the key points. I will definatly try to write in this bloody thing a bit more :P

    Gay Marriage is Legal
Today was one of the most resounding days in human rights history, with the final vote in the House of Commons on the law that would give any man or woman, reguardless of the gender of their partner, the right to marry. When I first heard the news ar work, I gave a yip and started clapping.

I didn't care who heard me, or what they thought. I was happy. If I choose, I can now spend the rest of my life with my mate, and not have to hide in shame or cower in fear of opinion, or legal backlash. This is a happy day for every gay, lesbian or transgendered person on this earth. Canada joins the ranks of only two other nations, the Neatherlands and Belgium, to extend this right to all couples. Let us hope that other lands soon see the value of such open acceptance soon.

    But for now...LET'S PARTY!!! ^_^

    First post!
Well, under the urgings of many, many furry friends of mine, I've finally desided to get this thing going! But what to talk about, I wonder...

Well first, I guess the coolest thing to mention would be what I just did this past weekend...I played my first day of Airsoft! For those of you who don't know what Airsoft is...imagine thise scenario:

You want into an arena with a Glock 17 strapped to your leg, and an assault rifle in hand...You've got a buddy watching your back as you move through the ruined houses and a pile of tires...There's two other men out there somewhere, and they aren't friendly...
Suddenly, POWPOW! ZING! You duck and cover, but your buddy's hit, and goes down. You poke your head up..movement! You can't get your rifle out without compromsing your position. With a shuffle, you pistol comes up. You level the gun and...CRACK-CRACK! Two rounds bring the hostile down before-AUGH! His partner pegs you, and you're down. But the only thing you've been hit by in a 6mm white plastic BB. Anyone watching a dedicated group play however, wouldn't know the difference.

In Airsoft, the players use realistic-looking BB guns that fire those little plastic pellets..they hurt, but no more than a paintball. Less in my opinion, actually. Anyways, it was great how I looked compaired to the other guys playing...they were all in military or SWAT garb, and here I am, having never played before, wearing jeans, a camo vest, a pistol holster, and totting an Kalashnikov...an AK-47, for those who dont know ^^ A blast in any case..and if you wanna look at more, check out this site: http://www.airsoftkelowna.com/main.htm

Anyways, I think this'll be all for now, I'm really tired! Hope I'll be posting more soon!
